DIFI explores Tallaght

Difi Explores Tallaght created by the pupils in Ms. Stack’s class following a visit to St. Maelruan’s Church and St. Mary’s Dominican Priory in Tallaght Village.

Last week the pupils in Ms. Stack’s sixth class took Difi with them when they visited two of Tallaght’s oldest churches. First, they visited St. Maelruan’s Church and Cemetery. St. Maelruan founded his monastery in Tallaght in the 8th century. The tower of St. Maelruan’s Church dates back to the 15th or 16th century and the present church was built beside it in 1829.  St. Dominic founded the Dominican order in 1216. The Dominican Order came to Tallaght in 1855 and founded St. Mary’s Priory.  It became a college for training priests and is still today an important centre of learning.
